Party Time

This has been a weekend of celebrations. After officiating for a wedding this afternoon, I traveled back to Wauwatosa for a special event. Tonight, parishioners of Trinity Church gathered to wish our recently retired administrative assistant, “Godspeed!” as she embarks on the next chapter of her life. There was feasting, and laughing, and hugging, and dancing as we celebrated Barb’s fourteen years of faithful service. All in all, a great party.

At one point, as I stood and looked around the room, I found myself giving thanks for the glory that is Christian community. We aren’t perfect. Sometimes we can be petty. But at our best we are thoughtful, and hopeful, and compassionate, and kind. I don’t know what heaven will be like, and far be it from me to postulate, but on nights like tonight, I want to hope I caught a little glimpse. And in the glimpse, I saw the glory of God.

“Life is short. We do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who journey the way with us. So be swift to love and make haste to be kind.” — Henri-Frédéric Amiel
